A hero is someone who gives their life to something bigger than themselves. They're just ordinary people who do extraordinary things because of the strength of their hearts, not the size of their strength. Ronald J. Frumento, Sr., used that strength to build trust in the community. He was an all-around great guy that everybody loved. Ron was honest, almost to a fault. He was a dedicated family man who worked multiple jobs for most of his life to give his family everything they could ever want. He loved to joke around and give people a hard time, all in fun. He was always the life of the party. There was no one more loyal than him. He would fight to the death for those he cared for. He never flinched during rough times. He was the fiercest person we knew. He was a man who loved with all his heart.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "It's not length of life, but depth of life". Chief Frumento filled our lives with commitment, action, bravery, and consistency. But life never gives; it merely lends. It is short. During a day of reflection and rest, on Sunday, June 21, 2026, Chief Frumento was called home. The angels had their way, and his soul had risen like incense, from Virtua-Lourdes Hospital in Camden to a place where there is no more sickness, nor pain, nor sorrow. Chief and all of these former things have passed away. God shall wipe all the tears from our eyes.

Chief Frumento was born in Camden and had been a lifelong Oaklyn neighbor. He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph The Worker Parish, St. Aloysius Church, and had coached Oaklyn youth baseball. He contributed to the manpower of our great nation, upholding the ideals of our American freedoms in the United States Air Force. Officer Frumento began his career as a police officer with the Oaklyn Police Department in 1965. During his 34 years of law enforcement and community involvement, he was promoted to Chief of the Department in 1988 and finished his career as Chief in January of 1999. During retirement, Ron stayed active and continued to work for 20 years in security for the U.S. Treasury. He then briefly drove a bus for Holcomb in Bellmawr. Ron loved his horses, dogs, and cats. We can’t forget about his motorcycles. He was a longtime member of the Centurions Motorcycle Club. Chief Frumento served as President of the Camden County Association of Chiefs of Police, President of the South Jersey Suburban Police Association, and was on the executive board of the South Jersey Police Chiefs Association. Chief Frumento was a longtime member of the PBA Local 257, a member of the New Jersey State Chiefs of Police, and a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

Ronald Frumento laid eyes on his wife for the first time in 1965, and his love for her has only grown. Ronald Frumento leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Jeannie (nee McFarland) Frumento. Ron will be deeply missed by his children, Ronald, Jr. (the late Brittney Karpinski), Rhonda & her husband Edward Coyle, and April & her husband Peter Laviolette. Mr. Frumento is the proud grandfather of Taylor, Alycia, Ryan, Savannah, Amyiah, Cody & Scott. He will be truly missed by Michael LaMaina (the late Peter LaMaina), his mentee, Chris Ferarri, as well as an entire and grateful community of friends, neighbors, and police officers. Ron was predeceased by his sister Janice Halscheid and his parents John Charles and Mildred (nee Tedesco) Frumento.

Relatives, friends, neighbors, police officers, and the Oaklyn community are invited to gather with Chief Frumento’s family. We’ll come together in tribute and thanksgiving to take comfort in each other on Thursday evening between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm and again on Friday morning between 10:30 and 11:30 am at McGee Celebration Creran Funeral Home, 400 White Horse Pike, Oaklyn. The Oaklyn Police Department will privately escort Chief Frumento around the Borough of Oaklyn on his last patrol at 11:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 pm at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, St. Aloysius Church, 37 W. Haddon Ave., Oaklyn. The time-honored tradition of reuniting those we love with nature will be held privately. The Frumento family would like to keep flowers to a minimum. Contributions are strongly encouraged. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, contributions in Chief’s memory can be made to the Animal Welfare Association, 509 Centennial Blvd., Voorhees, NJ 08043, or to the Voorhees Animal Orphanage, 419 Cooper Rd., Voorhees, NJ 08043
