James F Hagan, Jr.

James F. Hagan, Jr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on September 25, 2026. James was born in Camden, New Jersey, on February 22, 1949, to the late James F. Hagan and the late Mary Quick (Reider).

James was married to the love of his life, Judy (Ellenbark), for 57 wonderful years. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories. He was the loving father of James (Lee) and Kimberly (Brian).

James was also a loving big brother to Joseph Hagan (Shirley), Laura Quick Clark, Theresa Dilks (Robert), and Edward Quick. He was blessed with many nieces and nephews, as well as his beloved grand puppies Saffy, Chloe, Finn, and Kelsey, who brought him immense joy and companionship.

James graduated from Gloucester City High School, where he was a tremendous athlete and fierce competitor. During his high school years, he excelled as a three-sport athlete, playing baseball, basketball, and football. On the football field, he played both offensive and defensive tackle and proudly contributed on offense, defense, and special teams. Known affectionately as “Big Ma,” Jim was a member of the Tri County Championship teams of 1964 and 1966. He was honored with First Team All-Tri-County and All South Jersey selections, accomplishments that reflected both his athletic ability and his dedication to the game.

Jim worked as a machinist at Garlock Bearings for more than 20 years. His love of sports remained a constant throughout his life. Known for his powerful swing and reputation as a formidable hitter, Jim was recruited to play on numerous men’s slow-pitch softball teams over the years. He proudly played the game he loved for more than 40 years. His passion for sports extended beyond playing, as he also coached the youth Mustangs football team in the 1980s and youth softball in the 1990s.

Upon retirement, Jim became an umpire for both baseball and softball. He was also a longtime member of the Memorial A.A. Mustangs Club, where he formed lasting friendships and remained an active part of the community. He had an interest in horse racing and enjoyed spending time with friends at the track.

Jimmy was an avid Eagles and Phillies fan who loved attending games. He also enjoyed golfing, and one of his fondest memories was making a birdie at Pebble Beach. He especially enjoyed traveling with his family and spending time in Ocean City, Avalon, and Cape May.

A celebration of life honoring Jim will be held at a later date. Details will be shared with family and friends when arrangements have been finalized.
