Evelyn J Hyson

Nurturing is not complex. It’s simply being tuned in and offering small gestures. She was the first one to give her grandkids a french fry or ice cream. She cared for her own mother, her family, and made her career taking care of others.

Evelyn J. Hyson (nee Todd), at her core, was compassion and empathy who loved being in the company of others. She could be a bit stubborn but was equally loving. To the world, Lyn was just a mother, but to her family, she was our world.

They say we only live once. Not True! We only die once. We live every day. Lyn spent all of hers as a Gloucester City neighbor, cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies right up to her last day on Saturday, August 8, 2026, when she fell asleep into goodnight, surrounded by the love of her family.

Lyn was an animal lover, enjoyed cooking, and loved holidays with the family. She reimagined herself and earned her LPN at age 40, entering a career in nursing, and spent her working years with Dr. Glasofer in Voorhees. Lyn and her late husband were regulars at the Black Horse Diner. They started each day with a good cup of coffee complemented by big belly laughter. Lyn was a bit of an “antiquer” and enjoyed visiting Lancaster, searching for that perfect piece or a candle with the perfect scent.

Mrs. Hyson was just recently predeceased and is reunited in spirit with her late husband, Henry. She will be deeply missed by her children, Kimberly Miller, Virginia “Ginny” and her husband Gary Norton, John Hyson (the late Thom), and Heather Hyson. Lyn is the proud “Nan” of Jeri, Rocky, Kyle, Corey, Justin, Jessie, Emily, Jacob, Ariel, and great-Nan of Levi, Remington, Margot, and Daphne. Mrs. Hyson was predeceased by her siblings, Ginny Hammer, Walt Todd, and her granddaughter, Madison, but is also survived and will be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews.

Relatives, friends, and neighbors are invited to gather with the Hyson family. Everyone is strongly encouraged to wear their Eagles and Phillies gear. We’ve got High Hopes. We’ll come together to cheer on the Phillies and sing the Eagles fight song on Tuesday morning between 10:00 am and 11:00 am at McGee Celebration Etherington Funeral Home, 700 Powell St., Gloucester City, where a funeral and remembrance ceremony will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Pastor Debra Conner presiding. The witness of love’s reunion will immediately follow at Woodbury Memorial Park.
